The entrance of the Port of Bournemouth is from the east, through the English Channel and Poole Bay. Also known as the Poole Harbour, on either side of the harbour when entering are the shores of Sandbanks (in particular, the peninsula, northeast and the Haven Hotel) and Studland beach (southwest).
It is located directly ahead of a number of islands, with the largest known as the Brown sea Island. The Port of Bournemouth boasts of an area of roughly 36 km2 (14 sq. mi). Formerly used by the Romans as an invasion port for conquering southern England.
The biggest ship to dock in the Harbour is the Norman Voyager on 15th of October 2013, and the second-largest ship is the Armorique of Brittany Ferries docked in the Harbour for the first time on 2nd February 2010.
